Time for change at Chelsea

Chelsea crashed out of the Champions League last night to an embarrassing 3-1 home defeat to Atletico Madrid.

The game started very brightly when Torres scored past his childhood club. Mourinho's men were instructed to play a defensive shut up shop style like they did in Madrid but it was not meant to be.

Adrian scored a simple tap in from a lapse in concentration from the Blues' back line and when Eto'o brought down Costa in the box we knew it was over. Madrid weren't done when Turan converted the third safe to say Chelsea got it horribly wrong on the night.

Changes Chelsea need to make for next season -

Chelsea need to revamp their team so that they are able to match the big teams in Europe and the Premier League. They are still in with a shot at the title but they aren't the same dominant team they were. The first change needed is without a doubt, more goals!!!

Fernando Torres has scored 10 goals in all competitions - this is an appalling record for one of the world's best striker. Eto'o has played OK but the age is a factor and he is not a long term solution. And Ba is not the man to lead the line for Chelsea.

The options Chelsea need to look at are Lukaku when he returns and Diego Costa, who has been brilliant this season. Chelsea also need to develop someone to partner Matic in the middle of the park. Mikel is not a brilliant player, Luiz is too much of a liability and Ramires has lost his spark. He's become more of a dirty player in recent games.

There are reports linking Chelsea with a move for Paulinho - he would provide a good cover for Chelsea, him and Matic in the middle, while the attacking trio of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian unlock the opposition defence.

But I do believe Chelsea need to turn their attention to the youth team who they invested so much in. Chelsea's youth is very strong at the moment.

They are top of the under-21 league and in the FA youth cup final with the under-18s. They have top prospects, a few examples include Kalas who was brilliant against Liverpool, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been touted as the next Michael Ballack and looks very comfortable on the ball.

Players like Lukaku, Atsu and Courtois need to be placed into the squad next season to allow progression and provide more energetic play which seemed to be lacking from Chelsea this season.
