There are eleven players who believe in Diego Simeone. Sometimes that's all it takes. Sometimes it's everything that is needed.
The Atletico army spent the 90 minutes to put the transformation in action. When Arda Turan shoved in to make it 3-1 Diego Simeone ran halfway down to the corner flag.
Simeone is a Mourinho with nothing to lose. When the coaches shook hands after the semifinals it was a changing of the guard in the role of the Champions League school yard's coolest guy.
If Simeone says that massive work rate is good enough, that means that it is. If Simeone says Adrián López will play a key role after a spring on the bench - then Adrián will go in and dominate games against Barcelona and Chelsea.
Diego Simeone's Atletico feels at home just about anywhere. With 0-0 in the bag they went to Chelsea's home in London. Ninety minutes later, the Spaniards won 1-3 with goals from Adrian Lopez, Diego Costa and Arda Turan. The Atletico son Fernando Torres gave the home team the lead but it had no impact on the game.
Thus awaits a historic first final between two teams from the same city in a European Cup ever. It is Atlético's first final since 1974 when they lost the European Cup final against Bayern Munich.
Best Atletico Players
Thibaut Courtois: Courtois was really good. The Belgian was calm and steady as he stood for a few high-class saves which kept Atlético in the game.
Arda Turan: El Turco, as he is also known, grew into the game and finally scored the goal that put the nail in the coffin. Arda's 1-3 was perhaps a little fortunate though.
Adrián: You call Adrian "El hombre de las finales". He has been a ghost throughout the season but managed to put in some of his best matches against Barcelona and Chelsea.
