Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola claims to be ‘sure’ that supposed Manchester United target Thomas Muller will be with the club next season. Guardiola has also dismissed speculation linking Javi Martinez and Mario Gotze with transfers away from the club.
It had been claimed on Friday that Louis van Gaal will look to recruit Muller when, as appears to be a formality, he is appointed David Moyes’ successor as Manchester United manager. Martinez, meanwhile, has been linked with a transfer to Barcelona and Gotze has expressed his frustration at a lack of regular opportunities.
Guardiola, however, believes all three will be Bayern Munich players next term and would not encourage any bids to lure the three away from the Allianz Arena during the summer transfer window.
“I’m sure Javi, Thomas and Gotze will play with us next season,” Guardiola said at a press conference on Friday.
But will Guardiola be with Bayern Munich next season? The Catalan claims the club must decide whether or not he is the right man to lead the team forward, with some speculation about his future having been prompted by Bayern’s defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Manchester United had been linked with a move to recruit Guardiola after David Moyes had been relieved of his duties, but any move to Old Trafford would appear beyond remote. While Bayern may have been humbled in Europe, Guardiola led his team to success in the Bundesliga in record time. Manchester United, meanwhile, are set to recruit Van Gaal as their next permanent manager.
