Chelsea are planning to rival Arsenal for the signature of Bayern Munich playmaker Mario Gotze this summer.
According to the London Metro, the Germany international has grown increasingly frustrated by his lack of regular action, after moving to the Allianz Arena from Borussia Dortmund in a £30million deal last summer.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been credited with an interest in bringing Gotze to the Emirates Stadium, a move that would reunite the 21-year-old with compatriot Mesut Ozil in north London.
However, Arsenal will now face serious competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea after long-term admirer Jose Mourinho renewed interest in the attacking midfielder.
The Blues boss tried to bring Gotze to the Santiago Bernabeu during his time in charge of Real Madrid, and could now attempt to lure him to Stamford Bridge following comments of his dissatisfaction in Munich.
"Of course I'm not happy," said Gotze when asked about his amount of game-time under Pep Guardiola this season. "I want to win back the trust of the coach to play more."
Napoli manager Rafa Benitez is also believed to be monitoring Gotze's situation closely, but Chelsea and Arsenal are more likely destinations for the German star this summer.
