Scottish Championship side Hamilton Academical ended the regular season in style by smashing 10 past already relegated Morton.
The Accies knew only a win on the last day of the season would keep alive their dreams of automatic promotion and they went about it in style, beating Morton 10-2 to equal a club record.
The huge win boosted their goal difference enough to earn them promotion but table-topping Dundee won 2-1 to clinch the one automatic promotion spot.
In a frantic first half Hamilton man Anthony Andreu netted a hat-trick as the home side went into the break 5-1 up.
The goals continued to flow in the second half and striker Mickael Antoine-Currier bagged four goals to complete the 10-2 rout.
Despite having to settle for second place, Hamilton will be hopeful of promotion taking the momentum of this massive win into their play-off campaign.
Goals from Michael Devlin, Louis Longridge and a Stuart Findlay own goal sealed defeat for Morton, who had Dougie Imrie's brace to thank for getting them on the scoresheet.
The 12 goals at New Douglas Park was more than the total scored in the other four fixtures in the Scottish Championship, making it the place to be for entertainment.
The excitement of a 12-goal thriller turned to disappointment at the final whistle though, as news of Dundee's final day victory resigned the Accies to the play-offs.
Opponents Morton would have been looking to end the season with some positives having been relegated in mid-April, however this thrashing was a disappointing end to a dreadful season.
