Liverpool could be set to bolster their already impressive English contingent with the signing of four internationals this summer.
The Daily Mail report that Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in Southampton duo Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana, Manchester City defender Micah Richards and Cardiff centre-back Steven Caulker.
The quartet would join current England internationals Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge and Glen Johnson in the Anfield dressing room.
With Liverpool returning to the Champions League next season Rodgers has acknowledged the need to strengthen his squad and the four Englishman could be joined by Marcos Rojo and Yevhen Konoplyanka on managers shopping list.
The former Swansea boss believes the return of European football to Anfield will be a big boost when it comes to clinching his targets this summer.
He said: "We had the experience last summer when players respected what we were developing at the club but wanted to play at the top level [the Champions League]. I suspect this summer will be a totally different proposition."
And Rodgers has been boosted by the owners willingness to help him recruit this summer, he added: ‘It’s absolutely right to say that the squad isn’t big enough. It needs to be improved. The owners recognise that as well. They have been great."
The acquisition of Southampton's Shaw and Lallana could prove difficult for Liverpool, with a number of clubs likely to be competing for their signature, especially after both players made it into the PFA Team of the Year.
Manchester City's Richards could be an easier target, with the former England man ready to leave the Etihad Stadium having been unable to dislodge Pablo Zabaleta from the right-back role.
Caulker, meanwhile, could also be a realistic target after Cardiff's relegation was confirmed yesterday. The former Spurs man has impressed in Wales this season and will be keen to remain in the Premier League in order to pursue his England ambitions.
