Chelsea's assistant first-team coach Rui Faria has been handed a six-game ban on top of a £30,000 fine by the Football Association.
BBC Sport reports how Faria was penalised for his altercation with Premier League referee Mike Dean over the Englishman's decision to award Sunderland a penalty in the final minutes of the game at Stamford Bridge.
The Pensioners have decided to appeal the decision as they feel that his punishment is too heavy based on previous punishments that the F.A. have handed out.
Alan Pardew recently finished his suspension for head-butting Hull City's David Meyler when the Magpies went up against them. Pardew was banned for a total of seven games, three of which were a ban from the Stadium.
Paul Ince was also given a five-game ban for what the F.A. has stated "constituted violent conduct". Based on those incidents, members of the Chelsea Board feel that the punishment for Faria is too harsh as the Portuguese never had any intent to injure Mike Dean.
Very much like his right-hand man, Jose Mourinho is also in trouble with the F.A. for a variety of reasons. The F.A. are investigating comments made by The Special One after the game against Sunderland in which he "praised" the performances of Mike Dean and even went on to praise Mike Riley, the head of the refereeing body.
Mourinho has also spoken out about the inflexibility of the Premier League to move fixtures around so that teams competing on a European front would have more time to prepare for those games.
Faria and Mourinho, who have been working together right from the days when the pair were working under Louis van Gaal at Barcelona, see their Chelsea team go up against Norwich City at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
The Blues have not given up all hope of winning, the Premier League title despite being tentatively in 3rd place. It will be the only piece of silverware Chelsea could gain after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid this week.
