Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been superb during his Real Madrid career, and on Sunday night he saved his side from an embarrassing defeat to Valencia CF with an audacious volley.

Having been behind thanks to goals from Jeremy Mathieu and Dani Parejo, coming either side of a either Sergio Ramos goal, Real needed a bit of magic in stoppage time to earn a point and keep title hopes alive.

And who else to provide it but star player Cristiano Ronaldo? Watching Angel di Maria's well placed half volley cross, Ronaldo pirouetted in mid air and back heeled the ball elegantly past Diego Alves in goal. It was a goal of beauty and cheek, and Ronaldo's 65th in all competitions this season.

Real Madrid take a point from this match, and have 83 points with three games to go. Barca and Atletico, who have both only got two matches to go, sit above, with Barca on 85 and Atletico on 88.

This means that if Barca were to lose one and win one of their remaining matches, Atletico were to draw one and lose one and Real were to win all three, they could win the title. However, the initiative is very much with Diego Simeone's Atletico.
