Liverpool are closing in on Barcelona forward Cristian Tello after Brendan Rodgers was given the green light to make an £8m bid, reports the Daily Mirror.
Anfield is still reeling from the 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday night, all but ending their Premier League title challenge. However, plans are still afoot to strengthen the squad this summer.
One long-term target has been the Barcelona forward Tello, who was believed to be valued at around £8m by Anfield officials. Talks between the clubs appears to have been rather slow, but a turn of events has left the Spanish forward on Liverpool's doorstep.
Barcelona have been left fuming with Tello following his very public spat with head coach Tata Martino at the weekend. After being subbed on in injury time during their 2-2 draw with Getafe, Tello appeared to argue with Martino on the touchline and Nou Camp officials are not happy.
They are now happy to let him leave in the summer and Liverpool are ready to offer £8m to bring him to Anfield.
Tello has struggled at the Nou Camp this season, scoring just one goal in La Liga this season. Despite appearing in 21 league matches, he has only started two and is hoping a switch to Liverpool will mean more first team football.
However, both Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez will be waiting for Tello, with the 22-year-old likely to come in as back-up for the SAS strikeforce. Although the pair have been successful this season, Liverpool have to cope with the rigours of Champions League football next season and Rodgers knows both quality and quantity needs to improve if they are to challenge on all fronts.
