Manchester United centre-back Jonny Evans is expected to miss his side's final two games of the season.
Evans has been hampered with injury throughout the course of the season - playing just 17 league games for Manchester United.
And the Northern Irishman will not be adding to this season's Premier League appearance tally as Manchester United interim manager Ryan Giggs has announced he has failed to recover from a troublesome calf injury.
The Manchester United defender was expected to play a key role in his side's defence of the Premier League title as Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are no longer able to play twice a week.
Evans will be hoping he can utilise the summer to work on his fitness ahead of next season's campaign.
The 26-year-old's chances of becoming a Manchester United regular seemed to have been boosted as Vidic has agreed to join Serie A giants Inter Milan and Ferdinand is yet to sign a new contract.
However whoever takes over the Old Trafford reins may decide to purchase a new centre-back to partner either Phil Jones or Chris Smalling before the start of next season.
