Real Madrid star Raphael Varane has put Chelsea on red alert as the Frenchman is unsettled in Spain and would consider a move this summer.

According to Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, Varane is considering his future at the Bernabeu amid links with Chelsea.

After returning from a long-term knee injury the French international has found it difficult to dislodge first-team pairing Sergio Ramos and Pepe from the starting eleven.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was as big fan of the young centre-back during his stint at the Bernabeu, and he's been linked with a summer move to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

But Real Madrid do not want to sell - even though he's not currently in the first-team, there's a feeling that Varane is set to become one of the world's best young defenders.

Still just 21-years-old, Carlo Ancelotti is reluctant to let him leave and potentially have to face him further down the line in the Champions League.

And with a €200m buyout clause, Real Madrid would be in a strong negotiating position this summer to deal with any interest should it materialise.

Mourinho sees Varane as the perfect long-term replacement for Chelsea legend John Terry, who is out of contract at the end of the season although could yet pen a short-term extension.
