Real Madrid have decided that Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero is not a viable transfer target and will now focus their attention on investigating whether Liverpool star Luis Suarez can be lured away from Anfield this summer in a deal which could be worth £70m.
Suarez has been nothing short of sensational for Liverpool this season despite their title charge likely ending in heartbreaking fashion at Crystal Palace on Monday night, scoring an incredible 31 Premier League goals despite missing the first two months of the campaign through suspension.
Madrid chief Florentino Perez is actively searching for another top star this summer and The Times has this morning reported that Suarez rather than Aguero is top of his list, but only if the marksman's Liverpool contract contains a buyout clause the Spanish giants can use to their advantage.
Liverpool fans were forced to endure a summer featuring persistent Suarez speculation and a formal transfer request last year, all revolving around a £40,000,001 offer from Arsenal which the Gunners believed triggered a release clause in that contract.
The Reds took a massive gamble and decided to ignore that proposition, one that ultimately paid off, but are hoping to avoid a repeat after getting Suarez to sign a new deal earlier this season.
Suarez is now under contract at Anfield until 2018 but that hasn't stopped Madrid working to find out if those fresh terms contain a buyout clause, with last summer's £85m deal for Gareth Bale proving that Perez is persistent and has the financial muscle to match his ambitions.
