Premier League duo, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, are set to do battle for Lazio midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, as they both look for new additions this summer. reports the Daily Star.

The 21-year-old Nigerian international has blossomed in Italy this year for the Serie A outfit, and after producing several eye-catching performances for Lazio, a whole host of European clubs are now monitoring him ahead of the summer transfer market.

According to reports, both Liverpool and Spurs are in a good position to sign the Nigerian, and in a recent interview, Onazi himself admitted that a move to Anfield would be a fantastic opportunity for him, and he even stated that he would jump at the chance to join Brendan Rodgers' side.

Onazi was quoted saying: "Liverpool? They are a huge team and are attractive to any footballer.

"I could see myself playing for them. I would jump at the chance."

Rodgers, who has guided Liverpool to a superb season in England so far, with a shot at the title still in the picture, is keen to add at least six new faces to his side ahead of next season.

The former-Chelsea coach has already admitted that his side need strengthening in order to cope with the busy schedule they will face next year due to European commitments.

The Reds have already qualified for next season's Champions League, and it means they will be in the competition for the first time since the 2009/2010 season.

As for Spurs, they have had yet another unsuccessful season, despite spending £100 million last summer, and with Tim Sherwood set to leave his post at the end of this campaign, a new manager will likely be appointed.

Due to the hot-seat merry-go-round, Spurs may fall behind in the race for Onazi, which could see him join Rodgers and Liverpool.

After hearing about the Premier League interest, Lazio moved quickly to slap a £10million price-tag on the holding-midfielder's head to try and fend off any interest.

According to reports, Liverpool were showing strong interest in the Nigerian in January, but they failed to move quickly and could not wrap up the deal in time before the deadline.

However, they are willing to renew their interest this Summer and could be willing to match the £10m price-tag that Lazio want for him.

It is believed both Spurs and Liverpool are keen to sign the Nigerian before he goes to Brazil for this Summer's World Cup, but that would mean a deal taking place in under a month, as the competition is just four weeks away.

The midfielder is expected to make the Nigeria squad for the tournament and could attract more interest from clubs if he carries on performing.
