If Manchester United fans were able to bring one player back among their team’s number then most would go for Cristiano Ronaldo, that is for certain. Well, somewhat unsurprisingly, Wayne Rooney shares this sentiment, as revealed during a Facebook Q&A on Wednesday.
Rooney and Ronaldo spent five years together at Manchester United, winning three Premier League titles and the Champions League in this time, before the latter completed a world record £80 million transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.
Ronaldo scored 118 goals during his spell with Manchester United, with his performances in the 2007-08 season earning him a first Ballon d’Or. He has, however, surpassed these goalscoring exploits since leaving Old Trafford, with Ronaldo having scored an astonishing 251 times in 244 appearances for Real Madrid.
It is no great shock, then, that Rooney would love to see Ronaldo return to Manchester United - something he expressed when answering questions via his official Facebook page and courtesy of Samsung Football.
When asked which player from the Samsung Galaxy XI - a team that features Rooney and Ronaldo along with Lionel Messi and Radamel Falcao - he would bring to Manchester United, Rooney answered simply: “Probably Cristiano!”. And there you have it.
