Josip Drmic has agreed a transfer move to Bayer Leverkusen, reports German newspaper Bild.
The striker's reputation has grown exponentially this season after scoring 16 goals in the Bundesliga for Nuremberg.
Drmic was rumoured to be available for as little as £4.5m, meaning a host of Premier League clubs were looking into the possibility of signing him.
One club thought to be particularly interested was Arsene Wenger's Arsenal. Wenger is reportedly looking for two strikers this summer and had highlighted the Swiss youngster as a potential addition.
Former German international Lothar Matthaus went as far as to claim that Drmic was all but an Arsenal player and his girlfriend was in London looking for houses.
Matthaus told Swiss newspaper Blick: ‘Although now Dortmund, Gladbach and Leverkusen all have an interest. I’m saying: Josip Drmic will switch to Arsenal.
‘I made a mistake. I said his wife was already looking for apartments. The fact is that this is his girlfriend. Drmic has had a girlfriend for nine months. She has lived five or six months with him in Nuremberg.
‘Look, if a journalist hears something, he researched and wrote that then its true. I’m kind of a journalist and have heard the rumour of a move to Arsenal. I then found out that this is true.’
But it appears the now-journalist has been proven wrong as Bild is reporting that a deal with Leverkusen is all but agreed.
Some better news for Arsenal also comes from the Bundesliga after the club were alerted to the potential availability of Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez.
He is a potential target for Wenger but a bid of around £28m would be needed to tempt Bayern into a sale.
