Liverpool have opened transfer talks with Barcelona star Cristian Tello over a potential summer move, following reports that Brendan Rodgers has been given a green light to sign the Spaniard.
The Metro reports that the Merseyside giants have now formally approached Barca with an offer to purchase Tello, and are confident that he will be happy to make the switch to Anfield. The 22-year-old winger was in talks with Liverpool last summer, but eventually chose to stay on at the Nou Camp with a view to breaking into Gerardo Martino’s first-team.
However since then he has largely been frozen out of the starting XI, and the likes of Neymar, Lionel Messi, Alexis Sanchez and Pedro Rodriguez have ensured that his game-time hasn’t been all too great. The Metro claim that the Catalan outfit have now told Tello that he is free to find a new club to join in the next summer window, and so Liverpool have been encouraged to make their approach.
It’s thought that Rodgers will have upwards of £60million to spend on bettering his squad with next year’s Champions League campaign in mind, and the pedigree Tello would bring is not to be sneered at.
