Iran last qualified for the World Cup in 2006, with them finishing bottom of their group, this time however they will be encouraged by the group of Argentina, Nigeria and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

With a chance of sneaking through, it will come down to their results plus how they play, as this could be a potentially exciting group to see who goes through to the last 16, with three teams fighting out for this.

The Probable Squad of 23:

Goalkeepers - Rahman Ahmadi (Likely No.1), Alireza Haghighi and Daniel Davari

Defenders - Jalai Hosseini, Ehsan Hajsafi, Khosro Heydari, Pejman Montazeri, Hossein Mahini, Mehrdad Pooladi, Hashem Beikzadeh and Amir Hossein Sadeghi

Midfielders - Javad Nekounam (Captain), Andranik Teymourian, Mohammad Reza Khalatbari, Ghasem Haddadifar, Masoud Shojaei, Mojtaba Jabbari, Ashkan Dejagah and Alireza Jahanbakhsh

Forwards - Karim Ansarifard, Reza Ghoochannejhad, Gholamreza Rezaei and Reza Norouzi

Key Player - Javad Nekounam, the former Osasuna midfielder has a wealth of experience from his time in La Liga, plus his international experience will prove vital too, all in all, if he can help lead the team to a successful World Cup it could be down to his leadership and ability to also get a rare but crucial goal.

Player To Watch - Alireza Jahanbakhsh, while his name is unknown but this season he has shown for NEC in the Eredivisie to be a crucial player, he's played 27 games scoring five goals from a winger role and there has been hints of him moving to potentially Heerenveen or AZ Alkmaar after the summer.

His pace and ability to score crucial goals could be something which Iran may need, plus as a young talent it would get him some vital experience.

The Manager - Carlos Queiroz, has been in charge since April 2011, he has been a successful manager with leading South Africa and Portugal to World Cups and now a third nation with Iran, his vast experience as an assistant and club manager will prove vital on-top of his international experience.

The biggest problem is he has been critical of South Korea in the past plus had a suspension as Portugal coach, while the group is an interesting group, his team will need to do a lot of work to stand a chance of qualifying from their group.
