After Liverpool threw away the league on Monday with an embarrassing draw at Crystal Palace, questions have been asked about their defence and whether or not it is strong enough for a team that is aiming for Premier League success.
Honestly it isn't, even with the purchase of Mamadou Sakho from PSG Liverpool's defence has been overall very weak this season.
It was a very bad performance from both Sakho and Martin Skrtel who have been slated by pundits as not being able to handle holding together Liverpool's defence, Skrtel more so.
Considering the fact that Daniel Agger was on the bench for Liverpool it was a disaster waiting to happen defensively for the Reds.
The left-back and right-back positions are also quite weak for Liverpool but Jon Flanagan has come into the side recently and at least given Brendan Rodgers a little hope that they can improve defensively.
But to throw away a three goal lead in 11 minutes is just unacceptable for a team that is aiming to win the Premier League and Brendan Rodgers knows this, that is why he must solidify his defence going into next season.
It is a shame however that Liverpool who have an excellent attack fall behind when it comes to there defence. With players up front like Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge there are not many stars that feature in Liverpool's defence this in turn labels Liverpool as a bad team which isn't true at all.
In fact they have performed outstandingly this year and really deserve to win the Premier League.
Liverpool have conceded the most goals out of all the top five teams but have scored the most out of the top five, so if Rodgers can fill the holes in his defence and keep his main attackers scoring there really is no reason why Liverpool can't go on and push for a league win next season.
This is the position where most of Liverpool's transfer buisness will take place this July and Rodgers must act fast if he wants to purcahse the best defenders ahead of other teams like Manchester City or Tottenham who will also be looking to strenghten there defences so to get the best players Liverpool must be quick.
