Seattle Seahawks cornerback, Richard Sherman is on the verge of signing a new contract which will make him the highest paid cornerback in the NFL, according to Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport of NFL.com tweeted:"The #Seahawks have announced a press conference for within the hour. The belief is it’s for a Richard Sherman extension. Sides closing in."

Sherman and the Seahawks have been on negotiations over the contract for quite some time with the Seattle franchise already coming to terms with Sherman's defensive teammate Earl Thomas.

However, now it appears that a deal has been struck between the two parties and Sherman will finally receive monetary recognition for being among the top defensive backs in the league.

That monetary recognition is expected to be above the $16 million a year that the New England Patriots are paying to Darrelle Revis.

Sherman has long claimed that he is better than Revis and now the Super Bowl champion will be paid like it.

Sherman made eight interceptions in 2013, bringing his career total to 20 interceptions in three years. He also made headlines for creating the tipped-ball which resulted in the game winning interception in the NFC Championship game.
