Fresh from his Super Bowl success against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has signed a mega new contract making him the best paid corner in the NFL.
In a blog post on his official website, Sherman has revelaed that he will be getting a massive $57.4M - $40M of which is guaranteed - for the next four years of his career.
"I am blessed to announce that the Seattle Seahawks and I have reached an agreement on a contract extension," the talented ball hawk wrote.
"The goal has always been to stay in Seattle and continue to play for the Seahawks. With this chapter closed, I can continue to focus on what is important – defending our Super Bowl Championship and being the best cornerback in the NFL."
Sherman and the Seahawks had been in negotiations over the contract for quite a while with the Seattle franchise already coming to terms with Sherman's defensive teammate, and Legion of Boom co-star, Earl Thomas.
"Greatness is realized from countless hours of work, studying, practice, sacrifice and courage. This is just the beginning and I will continue to set the bar higher and higher on and off the field," Sherman went on to say in his piece.
Sherman posted eight interceptions in 2013, bringing his career total to 20 in three years. He made headlines for creating the tipped-ball which resulted in the game winning interception in the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers that sent the Seahawks to the Super Bowl and Sherman to internet stardom for his loud rant against Michael Crabtree about how he is the best.
Sherman said all along that what the Seahawks would offer him was all about respect. The money they put on the table would be a sign of how much they value and respect what he does for the franchise.
By becoming the highest paid corner in professional football, Seattle have made their feelings pretty clear for all to see. L.O.B
