PK Subban’s third consecutive multi-point night gave the Montreal Canadiens a 4-2 victory over Boston Tuesday night. Subban was able to deke out Boston goaltender Tukka Rask and scored a beautiful breakaway goal in the first period.

Tomas Plekanec added to the lead shortly after. Dale Weise also scored an impressive breakaway goal and Lars Eller sealed the deal with an empty net goal.
Carey Price made 26 saves on the night to cap off an electric home win for the Canadians. The win gives Montreal a 2-1 series lead.

This was a huge win for the Canadiens. Subban’s antics almost caused a monumental collapse, with the Canadiens player too far sometimes. Last night he almost injured Thomas Vanek in attempting to provide a spark for his team.

He took a very careless penalty on the play as well. Thankfully for the Canadiens, Subban redeemed himself by scoring a goal immediately after exiting the penalty box.

But the Boston almost launched a comeback in the third period when Jarome Iginla scored. However, Carey Price and the defensive core of the Montreal Canadians were able to hold off the Boston Bruins. Tukka Rask made 22 saves to try and give the Bruins some momentum.

A key factor to the Canadians success was their ability to once again match the physical play of the Bruins. In fact, Montreal actually outhit the Bruins 36-31 in the game.

Montreal also blocked 29 shots on the night and gave Boston very little time and space with the puck.

The Habs kept their composure and didn’t engage in many of the scrums after the whistle as well. The home crowd also played a vital part in Montreal’s victory energizing their team all game long. I believe this series will come down to whichever team loses at home. If Carey Price can continue outlasting Rask, Montreal will have a good chance of winning the series. Blocking shots has been a key factor in both Montreal’s victories over Boston.

If Boston has any hope of stealing a game at the Bell Centre they have to get more traffic in front of Carey Price. Clearly, trying to draw penalties isn’t working anymore. Screen shots are the key to beating Price. Rask will have to stand on his head again to give his team a chance to tie the series. If the Bruins can score early, they could tie the series.

Montreal could claim a two game series lead at the Bell Centre on Thursday night. It will also be interesting to see if PK Subban will be able to continue this impressive point streak. Subban now has 11 points in the playoffs and shows no signs of stopping, and he's on course to easily accumulate at least 20 points or more in these playoffs.
