As Adnan Januzaj's agent reveals that moments before signing his new contract at Manchester United, PSG offered an astonishing sum, it came to light just how much the 19-year-old superstar was paid at the age of 18.

Januzaj, who joined United back in 2011 at the age of 16, played an impressive role in the Red Devils campaign this season. For many fans he has become the main talking point - a future to hold tight too and hope that old glories can be regained from.

Although out of favour with David Moyes towards the end of his time at the club, Januzaj was still bagging himself a whopping £30,000-per-week, a greater sum than both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo earned at the age of 18.

No one can claim that Januzaj is not very much on the way to being a star however, is the youngster really worth all that money?

It may simply be a sign of the times, football has changed since both Messi and Ronaldo were superstar kids bursting onto the scene and, lets face it, money has become a main player in those changes.

With the sale of Ronaldo for £80 million, with players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic earning more than £12 million per year after tax, is a wonder kid that the club are so desperate to keep not worth £30,000-per-week?

A reaction to the PSG offer or not, United proved how much faith they have in the Belgium star man. Within a year he has become a fans favourite, his speed and skill reminding most of Ryan Giggs. In an ideal world Januzaj will stay at United for years to come and, probably will end up earning a much higher wage than what he currently receives.

The question for United - will he play well enough every week to deserve the money? So far, it's clear he has.

Januzaj has been involved in 26 games this season, scoring four goals. Many will remember his performance against Sunderland, his game changing attitude which propelled the Red Devils to victory. However, its not just about one game, his contribution and passion for the club matches no other wingers this season.

He has been a revolation, bringing back the youth ethos of the club and setting the Premier League on fire. Many United fans are more than disgruntled at his lack of accolades this year but, realise that the clubs future lies very much in the hands of players like Januzaj and David de Gea.

In the words of the fans, he truly has been 'a star man on the left hand side'.
