Arsenal have been offered Atletico Madrid star Diego, and Arsene Wenger may well opt to add the Brazilian to his roster of creative midfielder players, according to the Daily Mail.
The paper claims that with the 29-year-old out of contract this summer he is being eyed by a number of top European sides, but it’s the Gunners who look to have been given the initiative. Reports yesterday claimed that the Atletico man was on Wenger’s radar, but the new developments may have even taken him by surprise.
The former Juventus and Wolfsburg man only returned to Atletico in January on a short-term deal, but it’s not thought that he will be kept at the Vicente Calderon past this summer, opening the door for a switch to the Premier League. Wenger previously registered an interest in Diego last summer, and the Brazilian is good friends with Mesut Ozil, making any potential deal all the more feasible.
The playmaker could prove to be a useful asset as the Gunners look to move closer to the Premier League title next season, and with him not costing a penny he will be a financially-effective measure of improving the squad.
