WWE: Should they give superstars time off to recharge?

WWE is one of the only sports that provides year long competition. This is great for the fans because, unlike football, there is no off season, but how does this effect the superstars?

Pay-per-views, much like Sunday's Extreme Rules, take it out of many superstars but they still have to return the following night for Raw to continue the story.

It has been widely reported that WWE want to give some of the superstars time off at certain points of the year to stop burn out.

This is what CM Punk was reportedly suffering from when he left the company back in January after being on top for 434 days. WWE hopefully saw this as a sign and are looking to change this.

The topic has been discussed by WWE but the worry is that fans wont be attracted if stars like John Cena and Daniel Bryan are not advertised for certain shows.

The superstars could be advertised for the shows but then only cut a promo or be in a backstage segment to prevent them from having to wrestle night after night and it gives them time to recover after big matches.

Daniel Bryan competed in a physically demanding match on Sunday night at Extreme Rules and then fought Alberto Del Rio less than 24 hours later as well as fending off Kane. Daniel has been a wrestler for over a decade and is in his physical prime right now but as his popularity continues to grow, he will continue to have to appear for interviews and TV shows as well as his contracted wrestling appearances and WWE need to bring in a new rule in order to help him.

WWE will already be cut a little thin after Payback as Kane and Batista are both set to be leaving to promote their respective films but top stars like John Cena and Daniel Bryan will still be there competing.

As well as this you have the likes of Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho and RVD who come in and compete for a few months before leaving again, WWE could work this around them to let part time superstars take over for the bigger ones whilst they take the time to recharge. Either way, superstars always end up feeling the strain of the lifestyle after a while and WWE needs to put something in place to help prevent another CM Punk situation.
