Brendan Rogers reveals what all summer signings must have

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has given a fascinating insight into his summer transfer plans by revealing the three key ingredients any Reds player he signs must have, ahead of what promises to be a hefty spending spree.

Rodgers will be looking to build on a fantastic season by adding strength in depth across key positions when the campaign closes, with defensive additions surely a priority following Monday's disappointing collapse at Crystal Palace which barring a final-day miracle looks to have ended their title chances.

The Reds have been linked with the likes of Adam Lallana, Cristian Tello, Micah Richards and Ashley Cole to cope with demands of Champions League football next season, but Rodgers is adamant that he won't consider any transfer target unless they meet a trio of important attributes.

He told talkSPORT: "Moving into the Champions League next season, there's going to be a lot of games for us.

“For me, it's about getting players who have the tactical capacity to play how we want to play, players with personality and players who are hungry.

"Those will be the three key ingredients for the players coming in.”

Rodgers is believed to have a £60m transfer warchest at his disposal this summer, but his biggest fight may still be making sure talisman Luis Suarez stays put after a truly breathtaking season.

Before any of those issues can be dealt with Liverpool face Newcastle United on Sunday in their final game of the campaign, with a mathematical chance of winning the title if they win and Manchester City lose at home to West Ham United.
