Khedira is a surprise inclusion due to him being injured since November with a knee injury. He has yet to start a game since then.

Another surprise is the omission of Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez who has been plagued by injuries in his first season in Serie A.

Arsenal players Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil have been selected along with Chelsea midfielder Andre Schurrle.

The German squad is packed with players from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund with seven players for Bayern and six players from Dortmund.
