Bayern Munich's Javi Martinez has been a media minefield in recent weeks as speculation continues to grow about his exit from the Allianz Arena.

According to the Daily Mail, the 25-year-old is believed to be unsettled at the German club, leaving a summer transfer the most likely move in his career.

It is thought he has become disillusioned with a lack of first-team football under Pep Guardiola and now, the defender is seeking a new challenge.

Reports of Arsenal's interest peaked as the London club enquired about Martinez after it became clear that a bid for Lars Bender of Bayer Leverkusen would be rejected.

However, Barcelona are now believed to be sniffing around the Spaniard and will be hoping to smash the Gunners' bid in an attempt to secure the player.

Currently the price tag sits at £30 million, although it is reported that the Spanish giants are willing to offer much higher.

Defensive injuries have plagued Camp Nou this season - Gerard Pique sustaining a hip injury and a string of small knocks for Carles Puyol which have ultimately resulted in him having to leave Barcelona this summer.

In short, this leaves Barcelona on the prowl for a replacement and Martinez sits high on the list. He is a ball player as well as a ball winner which complements both the Barcelona and Arsenal style of football.

His ability to pass the ball and they way in which is conducts himself is an great asset to any football club.

For Arsenal it is bad news that Barcelona have come knocking to rival their bid, for Javi Martinez, it looks like some very interesting doors could be opened in the coming weeks.
