With the 22nd pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns traded up and got themselves Johnny Manziel, a brand new franchise quarterback and the most famous man in Cleveland, Ohio since the one and only LeBron James.
Just hours after he was named a Brown, Manziel attended his introductory press conference for his new team, and of course a reporter asked whether or not Manziel could lure James back to Cleveland to play with the Cavaliers.
Manziel, with some laughter, said no. “I don’t think I can do that,” Manziel said, smiling.
After this NBA season is over and James potentially captures his third straight title, he can opt out of his contract and become a free agent once again, and there are some Cavaliers fans that have held out hope for the last few years that King James would decide to return to his home state and finish what he started at the beginning of his career.
Whilst it is an insanely stupid waste of a question at a press conference, it does bring up an interesting narrative. Could LBJ and Johnny Football actually make Cleveland - one of the most boring places in America - cool?
It would be relevant for sure, that is if they won. Nobody in the media or in the stands likes a loser.
