Real Madrid are expected to make a £60m offer for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez before next month’s World Cup finals in Brazil get underway.
The 27-year-old, who is the Premier League’s top scorer with 31 goals from 32 matches heading into the final day of the season, is a keen admirer of Los Blancos and would find a move to the Bernabeu difficult to resist, according to the Metro.
Liverpool are expected to resist any offers that come their way for the Uruguay international over the forthcoming months. The Reds did exactly the same thing last summer, when Suarez made it clear that he wanted a transfer, and have reaped the benefits over the course of this season.
But 12 months ago, Real Madrid were less interested in signing Suarez, who was hit with a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic towards the end of last season. The situation has now changed and Real Madrid are intent on making Suarez their next Galactico - even if it means submitting a higher bid than their opening offer of £60m.
Suarez was inconsolable after Monday night’s 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park - a result which leaves Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League title tomorrow afternoon dependent on Manchester City losing at home to West Ham.
If Real Madrid are knocked back in their pursuit of the South American then they may offer France international Karim Benzema, who has just enjoyed his best season in La Liga since signing for Los Blancos in 2009, as a make-weight in a player-plus-cash deal.
