Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has dealt Inter Milan a huge transfer blow by confirming that striker Fernando Torres will be remaining at the club for next season.
Throughout the Premier League season, Mourinho has publicly criticised his three front-men, claiming that none of them have that 'killer instinct' which world-class striker have, but despite continuously slating Torres, after he scored the winner at the weekend, Mourinho confirmed that he is still in his plans for next season.
The Spaniard was reportedly ready to leave the club in the summer after months on the sidelines and more Premier League failures, and with a move on his mind, Italian side Inter Milan confirmed their interest in the 28-year-old.
Torres has failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge after completing his £50million move from Liverpool, but despite the poor form and goalscoring record, Roman Abramovich and several managers kept faith in the Spanish international, but it looked like this summer would see the end of Torres in the Premier League.
However, talking about the striker after their final Premier League game of the season, Mourinho admitted that Torres does still have a future at the club, and The Blues boss gave special praise for the striker's work-rate and attitude.
"Yes he’s in my plans [for next season]. He’s a good player," the Blues boss was quoted by the London Metro.
"He’s not the kind of guy who will score goal after goal but the way he works and moves he contributes to the team. He’s a player I like."
Due to yet another poor season, Torres was strongly linked with an exit, and with Inter desperate to strengthen their side this year, a transfer to the San Siro was on the cards, but it looks like the 28-year-old will be staying put in England after-all.
Inter, who have already signed Nemanja Vidic from Manchester United, are also keen on signing Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, as they eye a swift return to the Champions League after a poor league finish this year.
However, it doesn't look like Torres will be signing for them, so it's believed they will turn their attentions to Manchester City striker, Eden Dzeko.
