Manchester United supporters were quick to revel in Liverpool's failure to win the Premier League title this weekend, with reports suggesting that some fans organised a banner that flew over Anfield on Sunday mocking Steven Gerrard and underlining the Red Devils' supposed superiority.
As reported by The Daily Mirror, the banner - which can be seen above - read 'United 20 Gerrard 0', an obvious reference to the number of titles won by the club in comparison to Liverpool's esteemed captain.
While Manchester City's comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham on the final day of the 2013/14 campaign confirmed their second title win in three years and ensured that Liverpool would not taste such glory for the first time in 24 long years, 2013/14 was nevertheless a remarkably entertaining and encouraging season for Brendan Rodgers' side.
With relatively modest pre-season expectations suggesting that Liverpool would do well to compete for a return to the Champions League, the club - spurred on by the sublime form of strike pairing Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge - proved their considerable worth by challenging for honours throughout the season.
Indeed, victory over eventual winners Manchester City back in April appeared to cement Liverpool's status as firm title favourites, but unfortunately later performances against the likes of Chelsea and Crystal Palace saw their bid slowly falter.
By contrast, however, Manchester United have endured a thoroughly disappointing season by their usual impeccably high standards.
Having strolled to their 20th title with typical ease during Sir Alex Fergon's last season in charge at Old Trafford, Manchester United - who eventually finished seventh in the Premier League table after a last-day draw with Southampton - totally failed to mount any sort of credible defence of that crown and dismissed manager David Moyes last month.
Liverpool fans - what did you make of this banner? Do you find it odd to be mocked by Manchester United fans given the season they have had? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box provided below.
