David Luiz will be joining Barcelona next season, according to Lance!Net.

The switch was confirmed by sources close to the Brazilian, but details about his new contract length and the transfer fee remain undisclosed.

The defender, who is valued at around £23m, will replace Barcelona legend Carles Puyol, who will leave the club this summer.

Barcelona were already interested in Luiz' services last year, but Jose Mourinho vetoed a transfer.

Reports claiming that strengthening the defensive line-up is a key priority for the potential new Barcelona coach Luis Enrique emerged recently, and David Luiz was said to be one of his targets.

Lance!Net claims that the transfer will not be announced until after the World Cup, where Luiz hopes to win the World Cup with Brazil.

Luiz joined Chelsea in January 2011 from Benfica for £20m and has made 81 league appearances for the Blues since.
