Johnny Manziel may have already become the most famous man in Cleveland, Ohio but he is not the number one man on his new teams depth chart.
The 22nd man off the board in the 2014 NFL draft is seen as the saviour of the Browns franchise by many in the Dawg Pound, but the powers that be have him down as the back up quarterback behind Brian Hoyer.
The fans will have to wait until they get to see Manziel rolling with the starting offense, and it could be quite some time.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Manziel has been told by majority owner Jimmy Haslam that “Brian Hoyer is the starter.”
To drive home the point, Haslam says Manziel has been told “you’re the backup” and in hopes of avoiding a circus off the field the owner added, “this is not Hollywood.”
The Browns organization is very happy with what Hoyer has shown in the past, so there is a good chance he will begin the season as the team’s starting quarterback.
Manziel will have the opportunity to win the starting gig in camp, but he is going to have to prove it and will not be handed the job right out of the gate.
