England manager Roy Hodgson has announced his squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

While the exclusion of Ashley Cole and Michael Carrick shows that the 66-year-old is favouring a more youthful approach, some England U21 stars still went away disappointed.

Ross Barkley, Jordan Henderson and Luke Shaw have been some of the success stories of this season, but all three have teammates that may consider themselves unfortunate not to have received a call-up.

Competition for places in Three Lions' squads is currently rife, and there are numerous youngsters who lacked in consistency rather than quality.
