Watching a strike bounce back off the woodwork is probably one of the most frustrating feelings for a footballer from Sunday League all the way to World Cup finals, so imagine how Wolfsburg midfielder Ivan Perisic felt when he watched a shot hit the frame three times before falling clear to safety.

Perisic was aiming to extend Wolfsburg's advantage against Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend in a final-day decider for automatic Europa League qualification, a feat the Croatian international looked to have achieved in the 52nd minute thanks to a clever run and curling finish from an acute.

Quite incredibly though the playmaker watched his strike clip the near post, ping up off the crossbar and back out with a flick off the opposite frame all in the blink of an eye.

The Wolves went on to record a 3-1 win which wrapped up fifth place, although Perisic is probably still wondering how a 11th goal of the season evaded him in such miraculous fashion.

Check out a clever highlight package from the Bundesliga's official YouTube channel at the top of the page which perfectly encapsulates the moment at the top of the page, and I guarantee you will need a replay to truly take in quite how unlucky the 25-year-old was.
