Major League Baseball have opened up enquires regarding an incident involving an umpire and Detroit Tigers star Torii Hunter, reports CBS Sports.

The benches of the Baltimore Orioles and the Tigers cleared during the eighth inning of Monday's game after Hunter was hit with a pitch. The video of the pitch, which hit a particularly sensitive area, can be view by clicking HERE.

The ensuing scrum went down like any other in baseball: A lot of standing around, a lot of talking but not a lot of actually fighting.

However, controversy struck after Umpire Paul Nauert interfered with Hunter, giving him a light slap on the cheek to get his attention.

Of course Hunter went unharmed, but the point being made at the moment is that if Hunter had been the one tapping the Umpire, a firestorm would have broke out.

This latest incident follows Laz Diaz's childish shooing away of Shawn Kelly last week and reports are that the MLB are considering reigning the Umpires in to calm them down.
