Police have confirmed that the charge is a misdemeanor, although they have not released many details about the incident.
Hardy was drafted by the Panthers in the sixth round of the 2010 draft out of Mississippi. He has proved to be productive on the field, recording 200 tackles and 33 sacks during his four year career.
However, he has caused some off the field problems. Hardy was involved in a motorcycle crash prior to the 2010 season and then flirted with danger further when he posted a picture of his speedometer when he was travelling at 100 miles per hour.
He was slapped with a franchise tag earlier this offseason as he was about to hit free agency. However, the Panthers will be hoping that Hardy will be fully available to honor that designation in 2014.
