Manchester United and Liverpool will battle it out to sign Inter Milan's Mateo Kovacic when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.
The Daily Star believe Kovacic, who named in Croatia's World Cup squad earlier today, is attracting attention from the two north-west giants.
Former Arsenal target Kovacic is said to be keen Inter Milan after what has proved to be a disappointing campaign for the Serie A giants.
The midfielder is said to have aspirations to play in the Champions League next season which could place Liverpool in pole position to land the 20-year-old.
Kovacic has been one of the few bright sparks in a season in which Inter Milan will finish in fifth spot.
The Croatian starlet has managed to appear in 31 of Inter Milan's 37 league games, which is a healthy total considering the fact he is competing for a first-team spot with the likes of Fredy Guarin, Hernanes and Yuto Nagatomo.
Manchester United and Liverpool are also said to be competing to sign Sporting Lisbon's box-to-box midfielder William Carvalho.
