Just 12 months after the Gunners smashed their transfer record by bringing in Mesut Ozil for £42.5 million, there is growing speculation that Arsene Wenger is keen on spending big again, this time for Ozil’s former teammate Angel Di Maria.

The London Metro reports how the 26-year-old is believed to be keen to secure a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu, after the world-record arrival of Gareth Bale left the wide man down on the pecking order, bordering surplus to requirements.

Wenger’s old side AS Monaco are also rumoured to be interested in the Argentine, however, boss Carlo Ancelotti is believed to want to line up a replacement before allowing Di Maria to leave the capital.

The Arsenal boss’ interest in the player has been evident for some time, with Arsenal coming close to securing the player before his move to Benfica from boyhood club Rosario Central back in 2007.

The FA Cup finalists are also believed to be interested in Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who could be offloaded in order to fund their pursuit for Liverpool ace Luis Suarez.
