Arsenal potentially have the power to ensure that Luis Suarez leaves Liverpool this summer, as his fate lies in tandem with that of Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, according to French newspaper Le 10 Sport.

The publication, relaying information from Spanish source El Confidencial, claims not only that Arsenal are still retaining a strong interest in taking Benzema away from the Santiago Bernabeu, but also that Madrid will not move for Suarez unless their French striker departs the club. This means in effect that Arsene Wenger, who it has been said could pay as much as £30million in order to get his man, could inadvertently have a say on whether or not Liverpool keep hold of their prized asset past the summer.

El Confidencial states that Madrid chiefs will sanction a €70million proposal to the Reds, in order to tempt them into parting ways with Suarez, but will only do so if Benzema is sold. Los Blancos have had a continued interest in Liverpool’s Uruguayan superstar since last summer and his 31-goal season in the Premier League will have done little to deter their enthusiasm.

Meanwhile Arsenal are desperate to purchase a top-name striker in the coming months, and so the odds of them pursuing Benzema remain fairly high.
