Colorado Rapids have bolstered their ailing back line with the addition of former Barcelona youth team player John Neeskens.
The 20-year old has played the previous two seasons in Spain and spent time in F.C. Barcelona’s youth setup.
Neeskens comes to the Rapids from Spain, where he most recently played for Segunda B teams CF Badalona in 2013/14 and UE Sant Andreu the previous season. His youth career was spent in the academy setups at Barcelona and Villarreal, where he played in the youth ranks and often trained with the first team.
If the name rings a bell then it is for good reason. John is the son of legendary Dutch player Johan Neeskens, who played over 100 times for the great Ajax and Barcelona sides with Johann Cruyff that dominated Europe.
John was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma - his father played in the old NASL - and has citizenship in the U.S., Spain, and Holland, and will not count as an International Player on the Rapids roster.
Neeskens had been on trial with the Rapids for the last month, playing in several reserve team games before officially becoming a member of the organization. He can play every position across the back four as well as in midfield.
