Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar is being considered for a shock return to the club in a coaching capacity, and could work under compatriot Louis van Gaal, according to reports.
Information on Goal.com implies that United are preparing to offer their former No.1 the chance to become the goalkeeping coach at Old Trafford, as they look to replace the man currently occupying that position, Chris Woods. Woods moved to United with David Moyes last summer and lasted a little longer than the Scot before being told by Ed Woodward following United’s last league game at the weekend that his services were no longer required.
As such Van der Sar is said to be the frontrunner to claim the job that he initially turned down back in 2011, when Sir Alex Ferguson attempted to persuade him to join his back-room staff. It’s thought that Van Gaal will be able to coax the 43-year-old into teaming up with him at United as the pair have a rich history which dates back to 1995, when they won the Champions League with Ajax.
