Chelsea are set to offer outcast Romelu Lukaku a shock new deal following his participation in the World Cup this summer with Belgium, according to the Daily Star.
The general consensus has been for some time now that the Blues would be letting the striker leave the club at the end of the season, as Jose Mourinho didn’t envisage a future for him at Stamford Bridge. However now the Star claims that the club are worried that they may get less than what they value Lukaku at - said to be around £30million - unless they tie him down to a new deal, and will attempt to negotiate with him before the start of next season.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed yet another impressive campaign out on loan this term, having netted 16 times in all competitions for Roberto Martinez’ high-flying Everton side. This has been enough to spark attention from a number of top European sides, and so Chelsea are moving to ensure that if they do allow him to depart it will be for the most money possible.
With Mourinho all but having captured the signature of Atletico Madrid star Diego Costa it remains to be seen where he’ll find room for the big Belgian youngster, but a new deal would certainly infer that he has at least some future in west London.
