Global music superstar Rihanna has donated $25k to the Los Angeles Police Department after a selfie-mishap involving the Police Commission President Steve Soboroff occurred at the Los Angeles Clippers last game.

The money was given to fund cadets and fallen officers and the donation was made after the artist from Barbados broke Soboroff's phone whilst trying to take a selfie.

The selfie itself actually went viral and the reason for the snapshot was to show the LAPD wristbands.

Rihanna soon tweeted after the Clippers game to apologise to the Police Commissioner, she said: "Sorry I broke your phone"

Soboroff spoke about the selfie taken and he believed it would raise the spirits within the LAPD after a series of tragic deaths had plagued the police force, they had lost five officers in the last two months.
