Los Angeles Lakers to build around new free agent star

Detroit Pistons big man Greg Monroe will become an unrestricted free agent this summer and the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to offer the center a max contract deal to sign with the purple and gold.

The Lakers franchise is all over the place at the present time, injuries to Kobe Bryant and the recent resignation of Mike D'Antoni has left the ball club in limbo.

It seems that Los Angeles have come to the decision to fully commit to rebuilding, they intend to do this through the draft and free agency as they look to build the foundations of a championship calibre team on the premise of youth and exuberance.

At 23-years-old Greg Monroe fits the bill of a developing talent that the Lakers can tap into, by offering the big man a max contract it will force the Pistons to make a difficult decision of whether they spend big money on Monroe or let him leave for Hollywood.

There will be many big name free agents that hit the market this summer but it looks as though the Lakers have already identified their target and will be willing to pay superstar money to get Monroe.

The Pistons recently signed Stan Van Gundy as their new Head Coach and president of Basketball Operations, one of the first tasks he will have to deal with is the future of the organisation and one of its key pieces in Greg Monroe.
