The 23-year-old Bayern Munich and Spain midfielder, Thiago Alcantara, will miss both the German Cup final and this summer's World Cup, after suffering another injury set-back, according to the Guardian.
The former Barcelona man has suffered an injury-plagued time since moving to Germany and was hoping to be available for the German Cup final against Borussia Dortmund at the weekend after being ruled out since March, however another ligament injury will rule the player out.
Thiago was named in Vicente del Bosque's 30-man World Cup squad earlier this week, marking the first time the player would travel to a major tournament. However as in the European Championships and 2012 Olympic Games, he will miss-out through injury.
The versatile midfielder played a starring role in the U21 European Championships last year, claiming the golden boot award after scoring a hat-trick in the final, which Spain won 4-2 against Italy to secure their fourth title. =Spain, current holders of the World Cup, have been draw in Group B against 2010 finalists Holland as well as Chile and Australia.
