Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, as Brendan Rodgers plans a summer clear-out at Anfield, according to talkSPORT.
The Reds came so close to Premier League glory this campaign, but two costly results to Chelsea and Crystal Palace saw their chances of silverware dashed, and it was confirmed on the final day when Manchester City beat West Ham United 2-0 to win the title for a second time.
After seeing his side come so close to winning, Rodgers is now ready to be active this summer and has already admitted he wants to sign at least two world-class players, and it looks like a signing could already be close for Liverpool with Adam Lallana closing in on a potential transfer from Southampton.
However, with arrivals comes departures, and according to reports, The Reds boss is preparing to lose up to nine players from his side this season, and despite his presence in the majority of games this season, Lucas could be one of those leaving.
The Brazilian international is a fan-favourite at Anfield for his consistent performances at the heart of midfield, but due to his injury issues, Rodgers looks keen to move him on and replace him.
The 27-year-old suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury back in 2011, which kept him out for six months, and then soon after returning to first-team training, he picked up a thigh injury and missed a further three months.
Despite his injury-prone past, the midfielder has been a consistent starter for Liverpool this season, making 27 appearances alongside Steven Gerrard in the heart of the midfield.
However, with Rodgers keen to change his side around, Lucas may be just one of nine players leaving this summer.
As for Inter Milan, they have had a nightmare season, finishing mid-table, and they are desperate to bring in some new faces in order to bulk up and strengthen their squad.
Nemanja Vidic from Manchester United is already a done-deal, and according to reports they are working very hard on signing a striker as well.
The Italian side are clearly interested in a holding-midfielder as well, after being linked with John Obi Mikel, Sandro and Javi Garcia, but after seeing the news of Liverpool's sales, their focus is now on Lucas, who they feel could be available to sign for as little as £8million.
