The league season is well under way with 12 games already been and gone. Here I will give a match-by-match preview of all tonight's games with the competition really starting to heat up.
First up is Cork City vs Derry City. Cork have been quite a surprise with six wins from their first 11 games. They have accumulated 21 points and are sitting pretty in fourth place, four points behind leaders St. Patrick's Athletic.
Derry, on the other hand, have had a miserable season so far with only two wins from their first 12 games leaving the Brandywell club in seventh place just two points above the relegation play-off place. Both clubs have it all to play for two very different reasons. Derry are definitely underdogs in this game however they are no push overs and will provide a rather stern test.
Next up is Drogheda United vs Bohemians FC. These two clubs have had very similar starts to their respective seasons. The former have chalked up three wins so far and the latter outfit have two.
Both teams have 12 points thus far and are only a single point above the relegation play-off place. They are both in dire need of the points to get their seasons back on track. This could be a very close game with both teams having produced similar form.
The next game is Limerick vs Dundalk. Limerick have had a below average campaign so far with just two wins and 11 points collected. They are the team currently occupying the relegation play-off place but sit a comfortable 10 points above last-placed Athlone Town.
Dundalk, on the other hand, have had a great season after recovering from their first
game thrashing at the hands of Drogheda. Since then, they have won an impressive seven games and currently sit in third - two points behind the league's leaders with a game in hand. Dundalk seem to be clear favourites in this match up.
The final game of this evening is UCD vs St. Patrick's Athletic. UCD have been less than convincing so far with just three wins from their first 12 games and they are sitting in the tricky position of 10th place with only a single point separating them from Limerick.
On the contrary, St. Patrick's Athletic have flown out of the traps with a very impressive seven wins from their opening 12 games and only one loss.
