Michael Sam and his representatives have put on hold any plans of him appearing in a documentary produced by Oprah Winfrey's OWN network.
The project, which seemed to be focused on following the player in the light of his open homosexuality, was put on hold after he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.
There seemed to be a negative reaction about the project from commentators and also a reported problem from the Rams squad who anonymously opposed the idea.
Sam's reps are in the spotlight most here as, even though they cancelled it, they are surely responsible for making it happen in the first place. But after meetings with the team, the project was delayed.
It appears that Sam wants to prove his worth as a pro football player first before any media antics and celebrity culture go further than is controllable given his unique situation as the first openly gay professional footballer in history.
