Colombian star striker Radamel Falcao is going to miss the World Cup this summer, according to L'Equipe.

The Monaco star is suffering from a knee injury, and although he resumed training on Friday it seems that he will not be able to regain his fitness in time for the competition.

He made the Columbian provisional 30-man World Cup sqaud, but he will be one of the seven players removed who will not make the 23-man final squad.

The Columbian FA will host a press conference to break the news on Tuesday.

Falcao tore his knee ligaments in a game for Monaco in January and has undergone intensive rehab since then.

The 28-year-old signed for Monaco from Atletico Madrid for £50m last summer and was to score the goals which would help Monaco win the league. However his injury stopped him from doing that and Paris Saint-Germain went on to claim the title.

Columbia qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 16 years and will play Japan, the Ivory Coast and Greece in Group C.
